Prepare to flash!

HAVE I GOT YOUR ATTENTION?! Focus… Let’s enhance your visitor experience with visual storytelling.

I bet you’ve already skipped through the second part of the first sentence! We understand. We’ve all got only a hot minute of attention. That’s why it’s paramount to integrate captivating imagery in your site design. Let’s explore the ways you can elevate your design through dope photography.

1. The Blind Date

Just like watching a bride walk the aisle on MAFs, you’re either going to cringe or get excited. After all, you only get one chance to make a first impression (a little analytic pun there). Without a strong connection, you could be looking at dud engagement.

It’s time to get creative. It’s awesome to be inspired by others but it’s the real heroes that set a trend with original content that really captures what you’re about. With all the tools available today including smart phones and local artists that are chomping at the bit with ideas, it’s never been easier to get knock out content that inspires your customers and aligns with and elevates your brand identity.

2. A whole studio in your pocket

Don’t be afraid to try your hand at photography. If you’re a bit green there are plenty of iPhone photography courses available such as the iPhone Photgraphy Course that will have you dominating in a short time. Try experimenting with different angles, lighting and composition. Invest in third-party camera apps for advanced controls, and use editing apps to enhance and refine your photos. Another two apps we love are Airbrush and VSCO

3. Come as you are, ‘cause you’re the OG

Users crave authenticity. Users can spot a stock photo a mile away. Find perfection in the imperfections. It’s honest and you will find that your audience will love that! Genuine moments, candid shots and raw behind-the-scene content connects on a much more personal level. It makes you real.

4. Don’t overdo it

Have you ever looked at someone’s photos and saw the background warped as they’ve tried to cinch their waist? Or looked at and over filtered face and wondered how they hadn’t noticed? It’s really easy to get over enthusiastic with the filters but just don’t overdo it. Maintain a consistent aesthetic by using a specific set of filters or editing styles that are just for your brand.

5. Leveraging UGC (User generated content)

Creating a continuous stream of original content can be time consuming and costly. So encourage your peeps to collaborate and share their experiences with your brand. A cheeky repost is like hearing word of mouth. It’s how communities are built.

6. Copycat ain’t always where it’s at

What’s good for one may not translate onto another. You may have seen something you love and try to incorporate that style into your platforms. But just like low riser jeans on Britney in the noughties, it may not work for your brand. It’s great to be inspired but it’s even better to use that inspiration to come up with your own version of that style. Visual cohesiveness and a platform specific approach (consider aspect ratios and image resolutions) will ensure your vibe is on point.

Let’s get creating

Mastering the heart with art is a blend of creativity, authenticity and strategic thinking. By incorporating these into your process, you’ll create continuity and brand recognition. It doesn’t have to be perfect to start, just start!
